Proficiency Testing
The MQAP will monitor the performance of participating laboratories for running specific assays related to the pre-clinical testing of microbicides. Each laboratory will be provided with blinded samples to be run as a proficiency test for a particular microbicide assay. Once results from this test are compared against reference values for that particular assay, a pass/fail determination will be made. This information will be distributed immediately to each participating laboratory.
Real-time Assay Validation
As current and new methodologies develop for the pre-clinical evaluation of microbicides, it is important that these assays be standardized and validated. As part of the MQAP, participating laboratories will run their in-house microbicide assay(s) in order to develop a consensus protocol for a particular microbicide assay. Results from laboratories that utilize the consensus protocol will be collected and analyzed for intra- and inter-laboratory variation.
